FAQ: Workhorse Saddle Chairs: Improve your posture and well-being
For the most up-to-date information about the status of our project, check our project updates on Kickstarter!

How high should my chair be?

The height of your chair is based on your own personal preference and can be adjusted as needed. Ideally, your thighs should slope toward the floor at approximately 45 degrees. That, of course, means you will be sitting significantly higher than you do in a regular chair.

Don’t worry. You will naturally get a feel for the height that is right for you when your pelvis naturally tilts forward and your spine the aligns itself perfectly above.

Should I lift my desk?

Yes. As you are sitting higher up than normal with the Workhorse Saddle Chair, your desk also needs to be raised. This is very important, as slumping becomes impossible in your new sitting position. The rule of thumb is that your desk height should be about one inch below the height of your bent elbows when you sit at the desk.

Will I be immediately comfortable in the Workhorse Saddle Chair?

You have spent long periods of time sitting in a position that is ill-suited to your body, so your body may take some time to adjust. However, our bodies are great adaptors.

We suggest that if you start to get tired or feel discomfort, regularly change your position and get up for mini breaks.

Are there any things I should do during the transition from my regular chair to the Workhorse Saddle Chair?

Taking regular breaks and changing your sitting position is recommended. By getting up and walking around or stretching gives the muscles a chance to rejuvenate.

Do I need a backrest?

If you are sitting for lengthy periods, you do need a back and armrest. No matter what position you maintain, your body needs time to rest and restore blood flow to the muscles.

On the other hand, if you’re up and down all day, this is much less necessary.

Should I be in contact with the backrest while I am working?

Ideally, no. The Workhorse Saddle Chair is designed so that you are balanced in a position of stability from which you can work. However, there is nothing wrong with leaning back or forward on the backrest while working. Our special pillow has also been designed to make the use of the backrest easier.

Is it OK if I just lift my computer?

No. Your entire desk or workstation needs to be lifted. We have also designed small desk lifts which can be placed under the legs of regular desks to raise the height.

Raised desks and workstations are widely available and affordable; please feel free to contact us for advice.

If I get some burning on my “sitting bones”, why is this?

This is normal, as the Workhorse Saddle Chair forces the weight is on your “sitting bones”. Again, the body will quickly get used to this, but initially, this may become a little uncomfortable. If you get up and walk around as recommended, this burning will subside.

How is it that my hand control improves?

The Workhorse Saddle Chair sets your spine up in its optimal position.

This does 2 things:

  • It takes most of the load off the muscles that control your hands and shoulder.
  • Your hands are now closer to the shoulders and thus their base of support.

You will feel the increased hand control immediately when you sit on the chair.

Should my feet be on the floor? Do they have to be on the floor?

The chair is designed to have a little weight on the feet. This engages all the muscles in the legs, as well as the abdominals and core muscles. It also makes you very mobile.

However, there is no problem resting your feet periodically in whatever position you feel most comfortable.

What is the size of the chair and how high does the chair go?

Please see the specific sizing specifications and standard height ranges for each model including line diagrams on our campaign page.
We have considered all heights of people using the chair. Our standard gas lift is suitable for people 1.5 metres – 2.10 metres tall (5ft – 6.6ft). You must keep in mind that the ideal position to get the maximum health from the chair is with your legs sloping down towards the ground at approximately 45 degree angle.
We also have smaller and larger gas lifts available by request for people that fall outside the standard height range. Where the chair is being used at a raised bench, desk or bar and your feet do not touch the ground, a foot-rest is available at an additional cost. This foot-rest comes standard on the Rise. This gas lift advice applies to all models of chair except the Base and Slide which have a static base. The Base is designed to be placed on a regular chair, and the Slide has been designed to suit a standard bench/bar height of 90cm though we have other sizes available on request. If you require smaller or larger gas lifts and foot-ring, please message us to advise when you back the project and we will add this note to your order.

How much is shipping?

We are currently negotiating with several logistics companies and our final shipping price will be based on the volume of orders we received in the campaign. It will be in line with similar size/weight products you may have purchased online, and we will aim to keep this cost as reasonable as possible for you. We have provided approximate weights for each chair in our FAQ’s section.

How does this differ from other saddle chairs I’ve seen?

The Workhorse Saddle Chairs are superior to any other saddle chair on the market in several significant ways.

  • The Workhorse chair in terms of function, comfort and style is quite unique. The patented chiropractic contoured base provides unmatched comfort and support while sitting. Most saddle chairs are uncomfortable over time and place particular pressure on the male genitals and pudendal nerve. Great care has been placed in eliminating this shortfall.

  • The Pro and Plus models also have a changeable back and armrest. The patented rotating armrest provides two very different sitting positions and essential timeout for the large muscle groups.

  • Finally the sleek designer finish of the Workhorse means it will fit in with your own style and interior design.

How does the backrest on the Plus and Pro work?

The patented rotating backrest on the Pro rotates a full 360 degrees in both directions. It’s position is change by simply sliding a lever and takes seconds to change. This encourages regular seating position changes throughout the day providing your major muscle groups with much needed time out. A cushion is also provided so you can comfortably lean into the backrest.

The Plus model is a more economically version of the Pro and comes with a manually changeable backrest. This is simply unscrewed and moved from back to front then screwed back into place. It takes less than a minute to change the position on the backrest.

I have a back/spine injury, would the chair suit me?

The chair has been specifically designed by a chiropractor to maintain the spine in the most “spine friendly” position. This means weight is absorbed through regions and tissues designed to carry that weight. We suggest you consult with your doctor or surgeon if you have any concerns and feel free to message us at any time. We have had several patients having had laminectomies, spinal fusions, discectomies and spondylolistheses reporting a marked reduction in symptoms when sitting on the Workhorse Saddle Chair. We plan this to be a significant area of future research for the chair.

BackerKit FAQ

What is BackerKit?

BackerKit is a service that crowdfunded project creators use to keep track of hundreds to tens of thousands of backers—from shipping details, pledge levels, preferences and quantities, whether they have paid or had their card declined, special notes, and everything in between!

The BackerKit software and support team is independent from the campaign’s project team—BackerKit does not handle the actual reward shipping. For more information about the preparation or delivery status of your rewards, please check the project's updates page.

How does BackerKit work?

After the campaign ends, the project creator will send you an email with a unique link to your survey. You can check out a walkthrough of the process here.

I never received my invitation. How do I complete the survey?

The most common reasons for not receiving a survey email is that you may be checking an email inbox different from the email address you used to sign up with Kickstarter, Indiegogo or Tilt Pro account, or it may be caught in your spam filter.

Confirm that the email address you are searching matches the email address tied to your Kickstarter, Indiegogo, or Tilt Pro account. If that doesn’t work, then try checking your spam, junk or promotions folders. You can also search for "backerkit” in your inbox.

To resend the survey to yourself, visit the project page and input the email address associated with your Kickstarter, Indiegogo or Tilt Pro account.

How do I update my shipping address?

BackerKit allows you to update your shipping address until the shipping addresses are locked by the project creator. To update your address, go back to your BackerKit survey by inputting your email here.

When will my order be shipped, charged or locked?

That is handled directly by the project creator. BackerKit functions independently of the project itself, so we do not have control of their physical shipping timeline. If you want to check on the project’s status, we recommend reading over the project's updates page.

I completed the survey, but haven't received my rewards yet. When will they arrive?

As BackerKit does not actually handle any rewards or shipping, the best way to stay updated on the shipping timeline would be to check out the project's updates page.
